So You Want to be a Drone Pilot: Introductory and Advanced Training Opportunities

Are you a community member in the Village of Fraser Lake, Stellat’en First Nation, Nadleh Whut’en First Nation, or from the surrounding areas? Would you like to become a certified drone pilot?

Join the Drone Transport Initiative and our partners for free drone pilot training and certification. Spots are limited, so sign up now!

We will be offering two levels of training, with full time job opportunities with the Drone Transport Initiative for certified drone pilots in the future.

Introductory Training Course

Join the Village of Fraser Lake and School District 91 for an introduction to drone piloting.

Over the course of three hours, get hands on experience with small drones and an introduction to the rules of drone piloting.

When you are finished with the Introductory Training, you can seek further training or take Transport Canada’s Small Basic Exam to receive your Basic Operations Pilot Certificate and become a certified pilot of small drones.

Advanced Training Course

If you are interested in pursuing a career as a drone pilot, join the Drone Transport Initiative, InDro Robotics, and our community partners for intensive training in small and medium drone piloting.

Over the course of 40 hours of hands on training and classwork, you will gain the necessary skills and knowledge to obtain a Transport Canada Advanced Operations Pilot Certificate.

We will be offering two training cohorts from July 11-24, 2026.

Please be prepared to commit to the entire 40 hour curriculum over the two weeks of training.

Spots are limited, and we will only accept participants able to commit to the entire training. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for a short phone conversation, before being invited to one of the two cohorts.

We are Hiring

Following the Advanced Training, the Drone Transport Initiative will be hiring three full-time employees: one manager and two drone pilots.

Preference will be given for local community members, and graduates of the Advanced Training Course.
